Problem:
How might we create an efficient tenant management system that would not only be an easy access way for tenants to take control of their accounts, but would also assist property management teams in addressing tenant issues more quickly and efficiently?
How did we get here?
I’ve worked in the Real Estate industry for the last few years. I couldn’t help but notice a huge disconnect between tenants and landlords. Tenants didn’t have a way to visibly see their accounts in real time. Landlords never had an efficient way to contact tenants regarding the status of their accounts until the accounts were already seriously behind. This disconnect created contentious relationships between tenants and landlords.
I wanted to create an app that would bridge the gap between landlords and tenants, giving tenants better control of their account and finances while allowing landlords to focus more on acquiring more properties as opposed to getting slowed down by the administrative tasks their tenants demand.
This project is unique because I have first hand experience at being a tenant and a property administrator. My research process came much more organically, which led me to narrowing down some key features in this app design.

What’s Next?

I would like to add more features that would be helpful for leasing agents. Some of these features include quick access to tenant's rental history, open sq footage map for each business park, notifications alerting agents of leases that are due to expire within 60 days.

Focusing more on the UI of this app will be a priority in the future. I will continue to test colors, button states, and haptics to differentiate this app from other property management software systems who skip on the mirco-interactions that make the app cool to use.

Collecting more feedback from tenants is a top priority. I want this app to be useful for both tenants and property management teams.
